Liposuction Surgery (Liposculpture)

Liposuction, also referred to as liposculpture or simply "lipo", is a plastic surgery procedure which removes unwanted fat from areas of the body where there is excess. Some of the more commonly treated areas include the stomach, hips, waist, arms, buttocks, face, neck, and "love handles". Liposuction can improve the shape of the body and create a slimmer, more toned appearance.

While liposuction is available to nearly everyone, male or female, there are some factors which may make someone a better candidate. Ideally, individuals should be of relatively normal body weight but bothered by certain areas of fat that cannot be improved with diet and exercise. Liposuction is not intended as a weight loss tool. In addition, the best results are achieved on patients whose skin has good elasticity.

Liposuction is performed with general anesthesia. While there are many techniques available in liposuction today, we use the LySonix system, one of the most up-to-date and proven techniques for liposuction which specifically targets adipose fat while minimizing tissue loss. This technique utilizes ultrasound energy to precisely target and liquefy the fat prior to removing it with traditional liposuction techniques. This allows for gentler, more accurate fat removal with smaller incisions.

Swelling and bruising is common following liposuction and typically fades within two to four weeks. The swelling can disguise the results to some degree, however you can expect to see your final results after about two to three months. Any pain that you experience can be minimized with medication. You will be required to wear a compression garment for at least one month following your liposuction procedure. This will help to minimize swelling while also allowing the body to adjust to its new contours. You should be able to return to work and most normal activities after about four days, though exercise and strenuous activities should not be resumed until about three weeks after your surgery.
